What is tooth grinding?

Human teeth are composed of 3 layers: enamel, dentin, and pulp. Tooth grinding is when a specialist grinds away the outer enamel from 0.5 - 1.5 mm. This process is performed by modern machinery so it will be highly accurate and will not damage the dentin or pulp at all. Then, to protect the tooth, the doctor will create a tooth pulp and cover it with a porcelain crown to protect the real tooth pulp in addition to external effects.

What is tooth grinding?

The degree of tooth grinding will depend on the specific condition of each tooth. If the teeth only have problems such as spacing, little discoloration, or mild misalignment, grinding will be done gently, retaining more than 80% of the real teeth. On the contrary, if the teeth are heavily misaligned, chipped or slightly underbite, or have decay, tooth grinding will require a higher density.

In what cases do you need tooth grinding?

  • Teeth grinding for aesthetic porcelain crowns: Teeth grinding for cosmetic porcelain crowns can fix problems such as misaligned teeth, gapped teeth, severely decayed teeth causing pulpitis, broken, chipped, broken teeth, or broken teeth. darkened.
  • Tooth grinding for porcelain veneers: This is a gentler cosmetic method in which only a very thin layer on the outside of the tooth is needed or no tooth grinding is required. Use veneers for cases such as teeth that are dark, sparse, chipped, or have an unsightly shape.
  • Tooth grinding to implant porcelain teeth (porcelain bridge): This method is to restore lost teeth by planting fixed dentures based on two adjacent teeth.
  • Adjusting the shape of the teeth: In cases where the teeth are too long, crooked, or chipped, tooth grinding can be performed to correct them. However, it should be noted that when not covered with porcelain, tooth grinding should only be done in a limited manner so as not to affect the layer of tooth tissue that protects the pulp.

After completing the tooth pulp grinding process, the doctor will take an impression of the tooth pulp to prepare for porcelain placement. After that, temporary teeth will be attached so the customer can use them while waiting. The process of making porcelain teeth usually lasts from 2 to 3 days, then the customer will return to complete the permanent porcelain crown and finish the porcelain tooth aesthetic process.

Is teeth grinding painful?

Porcelain tooth grinding is usually performed after the doctor has administered anesthesia, helping to significantly reduce sensitivity. During the grinding process, you will not feel pain or discomfort due to modern and advanced tooth grinding technology. However, after the procedure is complete and the anesthetic wears off, you may feel some mild soreness. Don't worry too much, your doctor will prescribe painkillers to help you feel more comfortable. The most important note is that you need to strictly follow the prescription prescribed by your doctor, and do not arbitrarily use other medications other than those prescribed by your doctor.
